ASCEND Lockdown Projects on Display at Cheslyn House

Over the past 3 weeks, the ASCEND Isolation Blanket and Emerging Project, with contributions from more than 40 people have been on display at Cheslyn House, along with an exhibition of work by the Zooming Sew & Sews, a local group led by mixed media community artist and ASCEND tutor, Sian Fenwick.

The Isolation Blanket can be seen on a video on this website (click the link on the home page).  It reflects what isolation meant to the contributors, creating these pieces during the height of the pandemic.  The emerging project, is a display of embroidery hoops, expressing how the participants felt about ’emerging’ after the worst of the pandemic.

More than 900 people visited the exhibition, including Watford Mayor Peter Taylor.  He said, ‘I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to help Sian and the Zooming Sew & Sews make this exhibition happen at Cheslyn.   Together with Watford Area Arts Forum and Sian, we are engaging residents with local art and giving them a chance to express their creativity too.’

ASCEND is now looking for other local venues to display the Isolation Blanket and The Emerging Project.   Please do contact us, if you would like to borrow them as part of an art installation in your venue.   Tel: 020 8420 1364.
