New Thursday Courses for the Spring - Thursday, April 29, 2010

This  Spring, ASCEND is encouraging members of the Three Rivers and Watford communities aged 16 upwards to try out some new courses and taster sessions.

For those who are unemployed for at least six months and looking for work, “Flexible Routeways” could be the answer.  Run over 13 weeks, on a roll-on, roll-off basis, this skills development programme looks at preparing for work, creating a winning CV, filling in application forms and interview practice.  Together with skills workshops such as customer service, time management and stress awareness, this comprehensive course could be the route for securing a new job.  ASCEND is also running a short 9 hour course called “Response to Redundancy” for people who have been recently unemployed, to help them manage their new situation and look for work.

For those interested in arts and crafts, our popular “Crafty Creations” course has expanded and can take more students at its new time of 11am to 1.30pm.  Work so far has included collage, card making and working with fabrics and re-cycled materials.  Finally, an exciting new short course titled “Re-Made, Re-worn” is all about bringing old, favourite clothes back to life.    Over three weeks (20/27 May and 10 June from 10am to 3pm) this course will cover design, remaking and customizing clothes, with the completion of at least one garment or accessory ready to wear.
