ASCEND is a community based charity based in the heart of South Oxhey, an area nationally recognised as a regeneration district with social deprivation issues. Our work is all about moving people forward, challenging their perceived barriers to education and training; providing people with more choice and control over their lives. Thanks to ASCEND, many local people now have the confidence, self-esteem and skills to find a route to employment, some for the first time in their lives.
"ASCEND is like having a best friend. Always there for you in times of need whilst encouraging you to improve your life in many ways. South Oxhey would be an empty place without them." ASCEND Job Club Client
ASCEND also works with young people aged 16 to 25 and set up the Dig Deep Allotment Project with Sweet Tree Farming for All CIC and Step Up with Herts Mind Network. We are delighted that Mr Gareth Malone OBE and The Bishop of St Albans, the Rt Revd Dr Alan Smith have agreed to be our first patrons.
“I have been associated with the charity work of ASCEND since 2008. The professional and dedicated small staff team work in a sector that many philanthropists ignore because it raises tough issues with no easy answers. ASCEND connects with and positively changes many lives in this community, giving clients time, new skills and the confidence to move forward in their lives. Since becoming Patron in 2009, I have had the privilege of presenting awards and certificates of achievement to people ASCEND has helped. The joy, pride and emotion displayed in their success has been inspirational and leaves me (and many others) with a certainty that this charity is doing a fantastic job, in tough times, with limited resources. I am delighted to be their patron.”
Gareth Malone OBE.
